The Novo Nordisk logo is the Apis Bull, modeled after an ancient Egyptian bronze statuette. The bull was considered the embodiment of Ptah, the god of science and art. What's more, the choice of the logo follows the old pharmacists' tradition of identifying their pharmacy by an animal symbol.
Novo adopted the logo in the summer of 1926. The company had begun manufacturing insulin a year earlier, soon after the discovery that injections of the hormone could save the lives of people with diabetes. Novo and Nordisk merged their resources in 1989, and have since been responsible for many of the improvements in insulin formulations: the first to produce a highly purified product, the development of NPH and the first commercially available human insulin.
Headquartered in Denmark, Novo Nordisk is a global health care company with more than 90 years of innovation and leadership in diabetes care. The company also has leading positions within hemophilia care, growth hormone therapy, and hormone replacement therapy.
