Marguerite Butler of Houston is a professor of law at Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She was diagnosed with diabetes 25 years ago and hopes her story will inspire readers to change their lives for the better and give them ideas to make it easier for people in their communities to stay healthy. She recently opened the Novo Nordisk-sponsored Cities Changing Diabetes Global Summit in Houston, inspiring city and public health leaders from around the world in their quests to create healthier communities.
With two-thirds of people with diabetes living in cities, we initiated Cities Changing Diabetes three years ago to put a spotlight on urban diabetes. This effort has grown into a global coalition, with nine international cities – including Houston - with more than 75 million residents, and 100 expert partners all united in the fight against urban diabetes.
